Spiders and Spider Control South Texas
Two Main Spiders Worry Us In South Texas, The Black Widow and The Brown Recluse
The Black Widow

Identification : The adult female black widow spider has a shiny, jet black, spherical abdomen with two connected red triangles on the underside that form a characteristic hourglass marking. Note, however, that the hourglass color may range from yellowish to various shades of orange or red.
Control : Control efforts should target black widow spider webs because that is where the spider spends most of its time. Control is best achieved by following an integrated pest management (IPM) strategy, which involves using multiple approaches such as preventive measures, exclusion, sanitation, and chemical treatment when necessary. IPM requires a thorough inspection of the building to locate the pest. An inspection preferably should be done at night because the black widow spider is nocturnal.
The Brown Recluse

Identification: A brown recluse can be identified by it's violin and, as some experts point out, it eye pattern. A brown recluse has a dark brown violin shape on the the part of the body where the legs attach. The neck of the violin points backward. The eye pattern of the brown recluse is 6 eyes in pairs with a space separating the pairs. Most spiders have 8 eyes in two rows of four.
Control: These spiders like cracks and crevices. Insectiside application of dust or spot treatements is effective control. Also removal of food sources can be effective, however, these spiders can live months without food so pest control treatment is recommended.
